Two Memphis Motorists Injured In Fatal Crash in Schuyler County
Two Memphis motorists were injured in a three-vehicle accident in Schuyler County that left a Queen City woman dead.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Esther L. Wheeler, 73, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Schuyler County Coroner Doug Norman.
The accident occurred at 1:50 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7th on Highway 63 at the intersection of Lone Pine Road.
Benjamin R. Wheeler, 67, was driving a 1994 Lincoln northbound and was slowing to make a left-hand turn onto Pine Road. The car was struck in the rear by a 1996 Dodge driven northbound by Herbert F. Brookhart, 75, of Memphis. The impact of the collision forced the Wheeler vehicle into the southbound lane where it was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet driven southbound by Steven C. Rowe, 54, of Madison.
Esther Wheeler was a passenger in the vehicle driven by her husband, Benjamin.
Herbert Brookhart sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Adair County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center. A passenger in his car, his wife, Pattie A. Brookhart, 61, suffered minor injuries and was also transported by ambulance to the Kirksville hospital.
Rowe suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was flown by Air Evac helicopter from the scene to Northeast Regional Medical Center. Josh S. Benson, 19, of Moberly and Jody G. Stoebe, 32, passengers in the Rowe vehicle, were also hurt. Benson suffered moderate injuries and was transported by Schuyler County ambulance to the Kirksville hospital. Stoebe suffered minor injuries and was also transported by Schuyler County Ambulance to Kirksville.
The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, the Schuyler County Rural Fire Department and the Schuyler and Adair County ambulance services assisted the patrol at the scene.
