Ministerial Alliance Plans Good Friday Service

Thanks to greater participation of churches across Scotland County, the association with other benevolent organizations and the generosity of growing financial support for her ministries, the Scotland County Ministerial Alliance is here to serve the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our community.

Now under the direction of the S.C.M.A. are two programs that assist food and clothing needs for residents of Memphis and the Scotland County area. A slow but smooth transition has been made as the Alliance worked with the Northeast Missouri Community Action Agency to assume responsibility for a monthly food distribution program. Recently, the operation of the Clothes Closet was turned over to the Alliance. With this change, volunteers are being scheduled so that the Clothes Closet may be open on a regular basis.

The ministers participating in the Alliance meetings are busy planning and preparing for several services desiring to supplement and compliment the services of our individual services.

A community Good Friday Service will be hosted by the Memphis United Methodist Church on April 14th at 7:00 p.m.

The National Day of Prayer will be observed on May 4th at noon on the west side of the Scotland County Courthouse. Pastor Dan Hite from First Baptist Church is coordinating the program.

Pastor Mark Appold from the Lutheran Church will be planning the Baccalaureate Service to be held on May 7th at 2:00 p.m.

Currently, the Scotland County Ministerial Alliance meets on the second Wednesday of each month at the Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. All the ministers of the Scotland County churches or designated representatives are welcome to participate. Minutes of the monthly meetings are sent to most of the churches in the county. Any church not receiving the meeting minutes are welcome to be placed on the mailing list. Please contact Jack Sumption, secretary of the S.C.M.A. to receive the mailings and other announcements from the Scotland County Ministerial Alliance.
