Chamber To Honor One Lucky Mother
The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce will be honoring one lucky matriarch. Local residents are signing up their moms and grandmothers for the chamber’s Mother’s Day drawing at registration boxes located at member businesses.
The winner will be drawn at the May 9th MACC meeting.
The chamber is also sponsoring a Mother’s Day essay contest for students in grades one through six at Scotland County R-I and Gorin. Forms for “Why Mother is the Best” are available at both schools. Participants will receive a free pool pass with the contest winner from each class receiving an additional prize as well as a special gift for their mother.
The merchant’s association is coming off a successful Valentine’s Day Dance as well as the ever-popular Pancake Day promotion. Upcoming chamber activities will include Peanut Day in June.
The MACC recently announced it will offer associate memberships to non-businesses for anyone or any group interested in helping promote the community. At the March meeting the MACC voted to bring back the slogan, “There’s Always Something Happening in Memphis.”
President Jessica Kliethermes hopes the chamber can improve the community’s internet presence to take advantage of tourism opportunities. “I’m convinced this is the avenue (both locally and long distance) needed to find information about Memphis, including its businesses,” Kliethermes said in the group’s recent newsletter.
