Chamber of Commerce Announces Winners In Mother’s Day Contest

The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce and local chamber members recently held the “Why My Mom is the Best Mom in Scotland County” contest. The contest was open to all first through sixth grade students that live in Scotland County. With 56 entries submitted from students at Gorin R-III and Scotland County R-I, the MACC had a tough time narrowing the choices down to the top one entry per grade level.

Each winning mother received a framed copy of the letter their child submitted, a flower and a “sweet treat” that the mother and child can share at the Scotland County Pharmacy.

Each participant that submitted an entry for the contest received a free one-day pass to the Memphis Swimming Pool and their letter back, to give to their mom on Mother’s Day.

On behalf of the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce and Chamber members, “All Mom’s are the Best Mom’s in Scotland County”.

“Why My Mom is the Best Mom in Scotland County”:

Will Pickerell, SCR-I first grade, mother, Sherri Pickerell. My mom is the best because she loves me and I love her.

Tori Ward, SCR-I second grade, mother, Angie Ward. My mom is the bet mom because she loves me more than anyone in the world. My mom calls me her angel. She adopted me. My Mom helps me fold clothes. My mom helps me with a lot of things. My mom loves me a lot and I love her a lot. We do almost everything together. But most of all we like to plant flowers together.

December Miller, Gorin R-III third grade, mother, Susie Miller. My mom’s name is Susie Miller. She helps me on my homework. She is nice to me. She helps me practice on my test. My mom helps me clean my room. She let me have an animal. My mom helps me practice my shot for basketball. She goes to all of my games. She makes funny faces at me. My mom is a good cook and she makes good food. She lets me play with her pet bird. My mom helps me with the dishes. She is fun to me. My mom puts puzzles together with me. She colors with me. She reads with me a lot and she plays with me.

Jordyn Doubet, SCR-I fourth grade, mother, Jackie Doubet. My mom is the best mom in Scotland County because she cares for me when I’m sick. She and my dad work hard to feed me. Mom works Monday-Friday at the Gorin School as a teacher’s aid, who helps kids. I love her! Mom does fun things with me. Today we (my mom and I) are going to see a movie, and then I get to do her makeup for church tomorrow! Mommy takes me to my grandma’s to let me play on the trampoline and watch TV. We go shopping together and she buys me nice clothes. She checks my homework for me and makes sure I have everything ready for school the next day. Every night, her and dad will come in to my room, pray with me, say goodnight talk to me, and leave. The greatest thing of all is all the love I get from her! Even when we get into “outbursts”, we know we still love each other dearly. That is why I think my mom is the best mom in Scotland County – forever, and for always.

Anna Hirner, SCR-I fifth grade, mother, Nancy Hirner. I think my mom is the best mom in Scotland County because even though every mom can be strict, she is caring, supportive. Like in the homework when I need help, she always helps me and she comes to every game or thing I have after school and watches when she can make it, and sometimes when she’s not there, to me she is always there (especially for me).

When I need to talk about something she listens and understands, and in the mornings I have Tiger Trail and she is always willing to go. She wakes me up every morning, and I want her to know I appreciate everything she does for me!

Rebecca Sears, Gorin R-III sixth grade, mother, Toni Sears. My mom is the best mom in Scotland County because she’s nice. She always helps people and all her kids. She is not shy. She has a lot of friends and says hi to a lot of people who she doesn’t even know. She does a lot of things. She is a Girl Scout Leader assistant. She also cleans up the town, sometimes. She bakes a lot of cakes and desserts for people. She does it really well and has a lot of fun while she does it and she even decorates them, too. She loves her kids, husband, and poochie. She does what she thinks is best. She is very supportive. She makes everyone feel great. I think she deserves to win.
