SCMH Adds ‘One of Best Doctors in America’ to Local Medical Staff
Marcia Dial, CEO, of Scotland County Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce a new physician and family who will be moving to Memphis.
Randall W. Tobler, M.D. is Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and has joined the healthcare team at Scotland County Hospital’s Women’s Center.
Dr. Tobler has been in private practice for 18 years in St. Louis, MO. He is perennially elected a “Best Doctor in America” by his peers, and was named one of St. Louis’ “Medical Marvels” in St. Louis Magazine.
Dr. Tobler was a University Scholar and Summa Cum Laude graduate at the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1980 with a degree in Biology. His entire medical education was at Washington University in St. Louis, being elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society in medical school, and receiving the Rothman Resident Research award during residency at Barnes Hospital.
He won the Department of Ob/Gyn Teacher of the year award twice as an attending physician. He is currently on the faculty of both Washington University and St. Louis University Medical Schools. Undeniably, Tobler loves teaching. both students and patients.
Dr. Tobler is a member of numerous professional societies: American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American and Missouri State Medical Associations. He also serves on medical and editorial panels. Outside of medicine, he serves on the boards of Lutheran Family and Children’s Services and Lutherans in Medical Mission.
Providing specialized women’s health care across a patient’s lifespan defines an Ob/Gyn’s services. From developmental and adolescent issues, through the reproductive years and into menopause, Dr. Tobler feels privileged in taking care of several generations in one family from time to time. Tobler says: “I hope to provide care for a wide variety of Obstetric and Gynecologic concerns for women of all ages and with a variety of needs, and am certainly looking forward to serving as a consultant to the very talented doctors at SCMH.”
Dr. T, as many patients call him, loves performing, starting as a musician at age 13 and for the last 15 years as a medical expert on St. Louis television and radio. He currently hosts “The Randy Tobler Show”, a syndicated current events talk show heard in over 40 markets, and “Vital Signs”, a medical show, both originating in St. Louis. He was humbled to receive a Missouri Broadcaster’s Award for a special pre-presidential debate broadcast in 2004. He’ll be broadcasting both shows from Memphis in the future.
Dr. T’s wife Heliene likes to say they’ve been “infected” with country living since buying a farm in Macon 2 years ago. They were drawn to SCMH because of the superior physicians, staff and facility Marcia Dial has assembled. But the personal welcome the family felt starting at the hospital and continuing right to the town square sealed the deal. Dr. Tobler said “A great medical facility. A captivating landscape and fabulous people. How could we not move here?”
The Toblers have a son, Sean, who will be a freshman at Mizzou this fall, and daughters Shannon, 16, and Samantha,12. The girls are looking forward to starting at Scotland County this year. Shannon is on the dance team and Sammi loves her horses.
The Toblers are passionate about nutrition, fitness and lifestyle as they relate to health. Heliene has a Masters degree in Holistic Nutrition and is working on her PhD. They enjoy giving health and wellness presentations together.
Dr. Tobler credits Heliene (who was his high school sweetheart) and his children with sustaining him through a serious illness in 1997. He says: “Their support and love, coupled with a deep faith that matured during that time, provide a constant reminder of the importance of perspective and commitment in life’s journey.”
Dr. Tobler’s office is in the Memphis Medical Services Building located next to the SCMH Women’s Center. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Tobler call: 660-465-2828.
