Police Department Seeking $10,000 Equipment Grant

The Memphis Police Department is hoping the Community Development Block Grant program will help it shine more light on things in the city. The law enforcement officials received permission from the city council to pursue a $10,000 CDBG to fund replacement lightbars, siren boxes and operating panels for the department’s vehicles.

“These units we have currently still function but are incurring quite a bit of age,” stated officer John Myers. “We believe that some of these units are on borrowed time as it is.”

The city would be required to provide 10-percent matching funds if approved for the grant.

Deadline for the application is October 25th. The city has previously been awarded funds under the Local Law Enforcement CDBG, which is designed to help pay for basic law enforcement equipment and safety gear.
