JOHN PAUL LAWS

FC1 John Paul Laws, USN, 32, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away at his home January 5, 2006.

The son of LaVerne and Sheridan (Martin) Laws, he was born October 24, 1973 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.

John attended and graduated from the Schuyler R-I School system in 1992.

On April 13, 1997, John enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served for eight years. At the time of his death, he was a processor for the Navy Recruit District in Kansas City.

He was united in marriage to Jennifer Lynn Sayre on October 6, 2001 in Hawaii and to this union, one daughter was born.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Laws of Grain Valley, MO; his parents, LaVerne and Sheridan Laws of Downing, MO; one sister, Linda Ault and husband, Rusty of Marceline, MO; aunts, Darlene Laws of Lancaster, MO and Marcia Irvin and husband, Dave of Marshall, MO; uncles, Russell Martin and wife, Judy of McPherson, KS, Rex Martin and wife, Deanna of Aurora, CO and Charles Junior Laws of Blue Grass, IA; father and mother-in-law, Randy and Delores Sayre of Downing, MO; two sisters-in-law, Carla Sayre of Downing, MO and Holly Gregory and husband, Brad of Columbia, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents; one brother-in-law, Jerry Morlock; one aunt, Sue Martin; and one uncle, Jay Martin.

John was a member of the North American Hunting Club, several beach volleyball leagues in Hawaii and Kansas City and was also a Kansas City Chiefs football fan.

Funeral services were held January 10, 2006 at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO with Larry Smith, pastor of that church, officiating. Music was provided by organist, Betty Anderson and special CD selections. Pallbearers were the United States Navy. Honorary pallbearers were Clint Foster, Chief Dan Leathers USN, FC2 Ryan Early USN, Darren Starbuck, Cory Byrn, Aaron Brewer, Matthew Brewer, John Kaldenberg, and Mark Miller. Burial was in the Campground Cemetery, east of Downing, MO. Memorials have been established for his daughter, Ashlyn Nicole Laws. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home.
