H. Gene McLeland, 73, of Macon, passed away on December 14, 2005 at the McAllen Heart Hospital in McAllen, Texas.

Mr. McLeland was born on January 15, 1932 in Milton, Iowa, the son of Harold and Marjorie Burns McLeland.

He married Wanda Lee Leeper on July 30, 1951 at the Gorin Baptist Church in Gorin, Missouri.

Gene served in the U.S. Army from August 1952 until August 1954. He was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church, the Censer Lodge #172 A.F. & A.M. and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post of Macon. He retired in 1990 from the Postal Service after 42 years, including Macon Postmaster from 1972 to 1982 and Regional Director of Field Operations at the St. Louis Division.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda, of the home; three sons, Chuck McLeland and his fiancé Lela Hammer of Russellville, Missouri, Don and his wife Sandy McLeland of Jefferson City, Missouri, Curt and his wife Vicky McLeland of Macon, Missouri; one daughter, Robin and her husband David Ausmus of Macon, Missouri; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Bill and his wife Sue McLeland of Jacksonville, Florida; three sisters, Karen Memis of Maumee, Ohio, Glady and husband Chuck Heasley of Iowa, and Kathy and husband Mike Stiney of Independence, Illinois; and one aunt Helen and uncle John Shibley of Freeport, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held December 19, 2005 at the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon with Rev. David Israel officiating. Burial with full military honors was at the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery at Jacksonville, Missouri.
