NETTIE ELAINE “ARKIE” CROOK
(10/15/1924 – 5/3/2006)



Nettie Elaine “Arkie” Crook, 81, of Downing, MO, passed away on May 3, 2006, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

The daughter of Grover Cleveland and Myrtis “Myrtie” (Riddle) Steel, she was born on October 15, 1924, in Murfreesboro, AR.

On September 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Claude Eugene Crook and to this union four children were born, Terry, Suzanne, Tim and Brenda.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Crook of Downing, MO; two sons, Terry Crook and friend, Sharon Parsons of Greentop, MO, Tim Crook of Downing, MO; two daughters, Suzanne Anderson and husband, Dennis of Downing, MO, and Brenda Buckallew and husband, Jeff of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Todd Anderson and his wife, Arlene of Bondurant, IA, Elizabeth and Erik Buckallew of Omaha, NE; two great-grandchildren, Rylie and Justin Anderson of Bondurant, IA.

Elaine “Arkie” was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clyde and Harold Steel and two sisters, Estelle Basham and Dessel Minor.

Elaine “Arkie” was a very faithful member of the Downing Christian Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Chit Chat Club of Downing, MO.

Funeral services were held May 7, 2006, at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO, with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church officiating. Music was provided by organist Betty Anderson. Pallbearers were Todd Anderson, Dennis Anderson, Jeff Buckallew, Erick Buckallew, Dick Thomson, and Steve Swindler. Burial was in the Barker Cemetery. Memorials have been established for the Barker Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Downing, MO.
