JESS LEE ROCKHOLD
(12/20/1921 - 5/9/2006)



Jess Lee Rockhold, 84, of Memphis, MO, died May 9, 2006 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.

He was born December 20, 1921 in Scotland County to Dee and Ruby Flick Rockhold.

He was a 1941 graduate of the Memphis High School.

On November 28, 1945 he married Mary Fetters at St. Michaelís rectory in Kahoka, MO.

On June 2, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in North Africa and Italy as a radio operator on B-17s. On September 30, 1945 he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant from the 773 Bomb Squadron. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 30 years of service.

He was ordained as a permanent deacon for the Jefferson City Diocese. He served his church and community until 1990 when he retired due to failing health.

Jess was a charter member of the Wallace W. Gillespie Post 4958 VFW in Memphis. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and working in his yard which was his pride and joy. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Memphis, two daughters; Patricia S. Hyde and her husband, Jerry, of Memphis, MO, Penny Jones and her husband, John, of Beaver Dam, WI, and five grandchildren; Melissa Marie Archer and her husband, Keith; Stephanie Renee Hager; Kyle Christopher Wilson and his wife Jessie; Rebecca Sue Mueller and her husband, John; Kimberly Beth Jones and six step-grandchildren; Trevor Wayne Lewis, Kona Hudson, Brandon Wilson, Amanda Wilson, Jamie Raines and Zack Raines. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren: Levi Cody Woollums, Lucas James Woollums, Evan Joseph Hager, Dillon James Hager, Branden Lee Hager, Sophronia Rose Hager, Kallie Sue Wilson, Michael John Mueller; two step great-grandchildren; Kale Clark and Kirsten Clark; a brother, Bob Rockhold and his wife, Rennetta, of Kirksville, MO; a sister; Opal Criner and her husband , Bill, of Livermore, CA, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Vernon Rockhold and Richard Rockhold.

Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated by Father William Kottonstette, Patrick Shortt and Tom Albers, assisted by Deacon Ken Berry, Deacon Dave Ream and Deacon Tom Capuand. The mass was held Friday, May 12, 2006 at St. Johnís Catholic Church. Music was provided by Nancy Reardon, organist and Brent Karhoff, soloist. Eucharistic ministers were Vic and Hazel Orf. Burial followed in the Memphis Cemetery with military rites conducted by Wallace W. Gillespie Post #4958 VFW. Casket bearers were Jim McClintic, Larry Campbell, Joel DeRosear, Eric DeRosear, David DeRosear and Darrell Harvey. Honorary bearers were Mike Gundy, Kevin Gundy, Roy Clark, Dwight DeRosear, John Mueller, Everett Keith, Jeff Klem and John Ed Luther.

Memorials may be made to St. Johnís Catholic Church, the American Heart Association or the Parkinsonís Foundation.

Arrangements were under the direction of Memphis Funeral Home.
