MILDRED LEE MUSTOE RINEY
(5/1/1911–6/14/2006)



Mildred Lee Mustoe Riney, 95, of Memphis, MO, passed away June 14, 2006, at her home in Memphis, MO.

Mildred was born on May 1, 1911, in Scotland County, MO, the daughter of Osborne Samuel and Mary Ethel Hall Mustoe.

Mildred was a school teacher in the rural schools of Scotland County before her marriage.

On June 2, 1940, she married Robert Lee Riney at the Methodist Church parsonage in Memphis, MO, and to this union four children were born. Mildred and Robert lived on a farm south of Hitt until retiring and moving to town.

Mildred was a member of the Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church until they moved that church’s membership to town and then joined the Memphis Presbyterian Church, where she remained an active member. She was a member of the SCMH Auxiliary and the Presbyterian women. Mildred enjoyed needlework, crafts, and reading. She lived her whole life in Scotland County, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert.

Mildred is survived by sons, Larry Riney and wife, Norma of Memphis, MO, and Sam Riney and wife, Ellen of Memphis, TN; and daughters, Sharon and husband, Jim Bozek of Danville, CA, and Mary Jo and husband, Ivan Hanson of Shawnee Mission, KS; nine grandchildren, Carol Lynn Riney of Columbia, MO, Vicki Gail and husband, Mike Ahland of Memphis, MO, Darin Todd Riney and wife, Grethlyn of Richmond, IN, Lance Joseph Hanson of Prairie Village, KS, Jane Elizabeth “Betsy” and husband, Parke Pepper of Memphis, TN, Robert Stanley Cushing and wife, Kris of San Ramon, CA, Emily Rebecca Mieyer of Memphis, TN, Jeffrey George Cushing of San Ramon, CA and Samuel James “Jamie” Riney of Memphis, TN; Eight great-grandchildren, Genika Leigh Markey, Paige Monroe Riney, and Cassidy Noel Riney of Indiana, Reagan Elizabeth Pepper, Samuel “Yates” Pepper, Joseph “Ashley” Pepper, and Patrick “Collin” Mieyer of Tennessee, and Joseph Robert “Joey” Cushing of California; one great-great-granddaughter McKenna Ellyse Lucas of Indiana; two step-great-granddaughters and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Mildred is also survived by four sisters-in-law, Ina Carstans of Montgomery, AL, Ann Kaiser of Keokuk, IA, Mary VandenBos of Lakewood, CO, and Crystal and husband, Jim Bennett of Arvada, CO, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family has suggested memorials to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery and First Presbyterian Church and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on June 17, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles McCracken and Pam Glasgow officiating. Musicians were Connie Courtney, organist, and Sarah Cotton, soloist. Pallbearers were Darin Riney, Robert Cushing, Jamie Riney, Lance Hanson, Jeff Cushing, Mike Ahland, and Parke Pepper. Honorary bearers were Bill Coffrin, Bill Hall, Mitch Jayne, Wesley Lay, and Waldo McWilliam. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Scotland County, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
