BROOKE RENEE SHOOP

Brooke Renee Shoop, 10, who recently moved from Memphis to St. Joseph, MO died Thursday evening, July 20, 2006 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

She was born the daughter of Gary and Sharon (Mellott) Shoop on January 16, 1996 in Columbia, MO.

Brooke accepted Christ as her savior in 2004 and attended the First Baptist Church in Memphis.

Brooke attended elementary school in Memphis and completed the fourth grade this May. She enjoyed life with a host of family and friends. She taught all that knew her about approaching life with a song, a smile and strength, even in pain and adversity. Brooke enjoyed music and loved to entertain. She gave inspiration through her voice and touched a lot of lives, both young and old.

Brooke participated in the annual Blue Grass festivals held at Sundown Lake, Moravia, IA, and at Unionville, IA for the last several years.

This spring Brooke successfully bagged her first turkey, during youth season, with her dad, uncle, brother, and cousins. Brooke’s bird had double beards and she won the family contest for the biggest bird taken.

Brooke also enjoyed dance and participated in the last several programs performed by Paws and Claws. She also participated in the annual variety show at Scotland County High School. Brooke was an excellent student and received several awards for outstanding performance at school. She was also a member of the Missouri Mischief 4-H Club and the Team KIDZ at the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joshua Wamsley and Kevin Shoop; her grandfather, Rudy Mellott; and several great-grandparents.

She is survived by her parents, Gary and Sharon Shoop of St. Joseph, MO, formerly of Memphis; her sister, Hope Wamsley of Memphis; her brother, Dustin Shoop of the home; a special niece, Nevaeh Wamsley of Memphis; grandparents, Bill and Donna Shoop of Moravia, IA and Lila Mellott of Gorin, MO; aunts and uncles, Cecil and Cheryl (Shoop) Parsons of Memphis, Steve and Donna Shoop of Moravia, IA; William and Julie Shoop of Linn, MO, Floyd and Linda (Mellott) Ware of Otley, IA, Ron and Phyllis (Mellott) Aldrich of Columbia, SC, and Merle and Carol Parrott of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a host of cousins and second cousins; great aunts and uncles; and special friends that include Renee DeMarce, Jordyn Doubet, Betsy Johnson, and Stephanie Bradley, all of Memphis.

Brooke’s life was a special gift from God to her friends and family. There is comfort in knowing our angel on earth has earned her wings.

Funeral services were held July 25, 2006 in the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO, with Pastor Dan Hite and Pastor Joe Voga officiating. Special music was provided by the Team KIDZ from the First Baptist Church. Serving as pallbearers were Rob Moore, Larry Martin, Kevin Burrows, Bruce Parsons, and William Parsons. Honorary pallbearers were Abbott Shoop, Alec Shoop, Dalton Wolf, Ariel Shoop, Dakota Wolf, Renee DeMarce, Jordyn Doubet, Stephanie Bradley, Kayla Shoop, Lane Parsons, Gracie Parsons, and Katie Parsons. Burial was beside her brother Kevin at Brock Cemetery in Scotland County.

Memorials have been suggested to the family and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Chapel, 115 S. Main, Memphis, MO, 63555.
