FAYE L. STEEPLES

Faye LaVaughn McPherson Steeples of Hunt, TX, died August 27, 2006, at the age of 89 after a brief illness.

Born March 16, 1917, in Rutledge, Scotland County, MO, she was the daughter of Walter and Lena Margaret Smith McPherson.

A lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star, LaVaughn attended Drake University in Des Moines, IA, and graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL.

She married Robert Hummel Steeples in Memphis, MO, on September 4, 1941. Later they settled in Fort Worth, TX, where she was a long-time employee of the First Methodist Church and the City of Fort Worth. Following her retirement she moved to Houston, TX, and in July 2006 to Hunt, TX.

LaVaughn was predeceased by her parents, husband, sister Bernadine Smith, and infant brother John.

She is survived by daughter Laura and son-in-law Harry Portwood of Hunt, TX; daughter Jane Aoyagi of Westfield, NJ; grandchildren Mary Elizabeth Portwood of Houston, TX; Martha Amanda Portwood of Hunt, TX, and Fort Worth, TX, and Austin Steeples Aoyagi of Westfield, TX; brother-in-law James Avery Smith of Fort Worth, TX; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in Memphis. Donations in her memory may be made to Peterson Hospice, 1121 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028 or to the charity of your choice.
