Rams Ride Free Throw Advantage To Win Over Tigers

A 24-5 advantage at the free-hrow line was all Schuyler County needed to outlast Scotland County 46-38 in the semifinals of the North Shelby Tournament on January 19th. The Rams made 15 of those 24 free throws to outscore the Tigers 15-3 from the charity stripe.

Chris Oliver was the main culprit, as the Schuyler County power forward made 11-of-15 free throws including five of seven in a key 6-0 run to start the fourth period when Schuyler County blew the game open.

Scotland County fell behind 7-0 to start the game but battled back to pull within 9-7 to close the period.

Grant Blomme put the Tigers on his back in the second period. The junior guard hit four three pointers during the stretch that saw SCR-I pull to within one point late in the first half.

Cody Musgrove had five points in the third period but the Tigers remained down by 32-29 heading into the fourth period.

Schuyler County ran out to the 38-29 lead with 5:58 left in the contest.

Bryce Blomme scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 38-34 but that was as close as Scotland County would get as the Rams held on for the win.

Grant Blomme led Scotland County (4-9) with 14 points. Musgrove and Bryce Blomme each finished with nine points.

Oliver led Schuyler County (8-4) with 15 points. Logan Shively, Jake Fowler and Jacob Winkler each had eight points.
