Dominating Defense Leads Lady Tigers To League Win

A dominating defensive performance helped Scotland County open the Tri-Rivers Conference season with a victory January 25th in Memphis. The Lady Tigers allowed just nine points in the second half en route to a 58-33 victory over North Shelby.

SCR-I started the game strong on offense, outscoring North Shelby 16-7 behind seven points from Ali Fromm.

Fromm and Kirsten Johnston combined to hit three three pointers in the second period but that wasn’t enough to keep North Shelby from pulling to within 27-24 at halftime.

Scotland County stepped up the defensive pressure after the intermission. The Lady Tigers outscored North Shelby 16-7 in the third period to take charge of the game 43-31.

Jamie Fuller scored nine points in the second half and was equally impressive on the defensive end as the Lady Tigers clamped down and allowed just one basket in the game’s final eight minutes.

Fromm finished with 20 points to lead all scorers. Fuller finished with 11 points and Johnston added 10 points to give Scotland County (10-7, 1-0) three players in double figures.

North Shelby (3-10, 0-3 was led by Randi Willey with 14 points.
