Memphis Hosts Tri-Rivers Conference Junior Varsity Basketball Tourney
The Scotland County R-I High School gym was hopping all last week as SCR-I hosted the annual Tri-Rivers Conference junior varsity basketball tournament January 30 – February 3.
The event opened with the Brookfield jayvee girls defeating the Knox County freshman squad 34-18.
The Putnam County boys advanced to the tourney semifinals with a 54-44 win over Milan.
The third game of the evening saw the Knox County sophomore girls beat Schuyler County 40-12.
The home team played in the nightcap and saw Schuyler County slip away with a 32-29 win as the Tigers’ last second shot did not fall. Scotland County was led by Chris Holt with 12 points. Brandon Dale finished with 11 points.
January 31st was a light night, as the tourney held just three games.
The SCR-I girls opened tourney play with a 28-19 victory over Schuyler County. Amanda Bogatzke led the way with seven points. Ciera Turner and Valerie Oldham each added six points.
The Clark County boys edged Knox County 37-25.
The finale saw the Clark County girls dominate the Knox County freshman team 50-8.
Night three of the tournament was back to full tilt with four contests.
The Clark County girls advanced to the finals with a 50-16 victory over Brookfield.
The Brookfield boys edged Schuyler County 35-32 in a boys’ semifinals match up.
The host Lady Tigers set up a championship meeting with Clark County by beating the Knox County sophomores by a final score of 33-6. SCR-I was paced by Tara Matlock and Valerie Oldham with six points and Kaitlin Caldwell with four points.
The Knox County boys moved into the consolation game by beating Milan 45-32.
February second opened with the Knox County freshman girls claiming the consolation trophy with a 30-20 victory over Schuyler County.
Knox County took similar honors in the boys’ bracket courtesy of a 45-23 win over Scotland County. Holt and Dale led the Tigers with six points and Eric Glass contributed five points.
The Putnam County boys beat Clark County 31-29 to move into the championship.
Play opened February 3rd with the Knox County sophomore girls besting Brookfield 31-30 to take home the third place trophy.
The boys third place game went to Clark County with a 63-44 win over Schuyler County.
The Clark County girls won the championship with a 40-31 win over Scotland County. Melissa Cotton led the Lady Tigers with 16 points while Deidra Dochterman added six points.
The event came to a close with Putnam County beating Brookfield 36-19 in the boys’ championship game.
