Mustangs Ride Away From Tigers In Overtime
Overtime has not been kind to the Scotland County basketball team. For the second time this season the Tigers saw a win slip away in the extended period as Davis County outscored SCR-I 9-5 in overtime on February 13th in Memphis to escape with an 88-84 victory.
SCR-I jumped all over the Mustangs in the first period to the tune of a 26-10 lead as Lathan Watson and Grant Blomme each hit a pair of treys in the offensive onslaught.
Davis County returned the favor in the second period, outscoring the Tigers 30-13 to pull ahead 40-39 at the intermission. Jon Swain scored 11 of his game-high 28 points during the key spurt for Davis County.
Matt Wickert came alive on offense for the Tigers in the third period as he poured in nine points to keep SCR-I within striking distance, trailing 58-54 heading into the fourth period.
Both offenses found another gear in the fourth quarter. Bryce Blomme put up seven points and Wickert and Cody Musgrove each added six points as the Tigers rallied to tie the contest.
SCR-I had a chance to put the game away, but after making 10 straight free throws early in the period, the Tigers made just one-of-nine from the charity stripe down the stretch, leaving the door open for the Mustangs to tie the game at 79.
Musgrove scored all five of the Tigers’ points in overtime but the Mustangs were a perfect six-of-six from the free-throw line to sneak away with the 88-84 win.
Davis County (7-9) was led in scoring by Jon Swain with 28 points. Josiah Mishler added 17 points.
Wickert topped Scotland County (6-14) in scoring with 22 points. Musgrove finished with 17 points and Bryce Blomme added 16. Grant Blomme pitched in with 13 points and Watson closed out with 10 points.
