Little League Final Sign-Up Date Set For March 4th

The Scotland County Little League will be holding a sign-up for summer baseball and softball Saturday, March 4, 2006 from 8AM to noon at the Memphis Fire Station. Several board members will be on hand during this time period to answer any questions regarding the upcoming season. All prospective players, coaches and umpires are encouraged to stop by and visit with the board if they have not already done so. If you miss us at the Fire Station on March 4th, you may contact any board member before March 17th and still get signed up. Current Board Members are Rich Rader, Curtis Ebeling, Marie Ebeling, Ellen Clark, Mike Campbell, Kelly Cooley and Lori Rader.

The age groups for the upcoming season are as follows: 5-6 year old coed baseball; 7-8 year old baseball/softball; 9-10 year old baseball/softball; 11-12 year old baseball/softball and 13-15 year old baseball/softball. New eligibility dates for the 2006 season are April 30, 2006 for the 5-6 year old coed and boy’s baseball teams and December 31, 2005 for the girl’s softball teams. A fee of $15 is required for any child interested in participating on a team.

Board members will also be accepting forms from anyone interested in coaching during the 2006 season. The coaches will be responsible for scheduling practices, attending games and providing a positive learning environment for the team they are awarded. The coaching staff will be determined by the board from the forms they receive during the sign-ups once the teams have been formed in mid to late March.

Other positions available through the Scotland County Little League are baseball and softball umpires, field set-up and snack stand workers. The board members will be accepting forms from anyone interested in umpiring games during the 2006 season. A meeting will be scheduled with all potential umpires during late April or early May to establish an umpiring schedule for all games scheduled at Scotland County.

We are also seeking individuals or groups that would be interested in setting up the fields before each game. Some responsibilities would include working each field, marking the field and positioning the bases and pitching rubbers as needed. A set amount will be paid per field. All supplies will be provided by Little League.

We are also seeking an individual or group that would be interested in setting up the concession stands and working the concession stands each evening. The Little League will purchase all supplies necessary. The individual or group would be responsible for setting up, working and cleaning up the stands. A set amount will be paid to the group chosen to run the stands (25% given at the beginning of the season, 25% at the middle of the season and 50% at the end of the season).

In addition, the NEMO Baseball and Softball Association voted on February 13, 2006 to join the Babe Ruth Softball program. In the past, we have played by the Babe Ruth rules, but were not eligible to participate in the state play-offs. Our girls will now have the opportunity to attend the Babe Ruth State Softball Tournament on July 14th through 16th in Chaffee, MO.
