Bulldogs Dominate Second Half To Beat Tigers 52-28

Scotland County looked poised to send its seniors out in style on Friday night, well at least for half the game. The Tigers appeared poised to deliver an upset to Brookfield (21-4, 6-1) in SCR-Iís final home game of the 2005-06 season as the two teams went toe-to-toe in the first 16 minutes.

Brent Paalhar got the visiting team off to a solid start, scoring the gameís first six points. But the Tigers clamped down on defense and buckets by Chris Humes and Cody Musgrove cut the deficit to 6-4 with 3:04 left in the opening period.

A three pointer by Bryce Blomme closed the first period with the Tigers down 12-7.

SCR-I trailed 14-7 in the second period before getting things rolling on offense. Humes scored on another offensive rebound to start the rally. After Musgrove and Lathan Watson hit buckets, Dustin Roach nailed two free throws. Humes followed with a bucket in the paint before Musgrove cleaned up a teammateís miss with a bucket on the offensive glass that tied the game at 19-19 with 1:06 left in the first half.

Brookfield scored the final five points of the opening half but the Tigers still went to the locker room in good shape.

Unfortunately SCR-I didnít come back out of the break as strong. A basket by Matt Wickert made the score 26-21. That was the lone tally of the third period for Scotland County, which saw Brookfield blow the game open with a 13-0 run to lead 37-21.

The lid remained on the basket in the fourth quarter as well. Wickert was credited with two points on a goaltending call on Brookfield. That was the only way SCR-I could put any points on the board as the shots simply were not falling. Humes finally got one to go with just 1:30 left in the game and Bryce Blomme connected on a jumper at the buzzer but Brookfield coasted to the 52-28 win to secure a tie for first place in the Tri-Rivers Conference.

The Tigers closed out the regular season with a 6-17 record and a 2-5 mark in league play. They were led in scoring by Humes with eight points and Musgrove had six points.
