Seniors Lead Lady Tigers To 42-33 Win Over Canton

Senior night wasnít scheduled until Friday, but someone forgot to tell the four eldest Scotland County Lady Tigers as the four-some celebrated a few days early. Scotland County defeated Canton 42-33 February 21st in Memphis as the teamís seniors, Ali Fromm, Ashlee Frederick, Jamie Fuller and Angie Bulen combined to score all 42 points.

Frederick, Fuller and Bulen each had four points in the first period to stake SCR-I to a 12-9 advantage.

Scotland County continued its stingy defensive effort in the second period, holding Canton to just six points to insure a 20-15 halftime lead.

The Lady Tigers pulled away in the third period as Fuller scored five points in a 13-8 run to put the home team on top 33-23.

The double-digit bulge held up for much of the final quarter as Scotland County preserved its advantage by hitting six of nine free throws down the stretch to win 42-33.

Fromm topped all scorers with 17 points to help Scotland County improve to 15-8. Frederick chimed in with 12 points. Fuller finished with eight points and Bulen had the other five points.

Danielle Caldwell led Canton with 17 points.

SCR-I is the top seed in the upcoming Class 2 District 5 Tournament. Canton is the #2 seed. The Lady Tigers have a first round bye and will have to play the winner of the Schuyler County (#4) vs. Princeton (#5) game. The semifinals matchup is set for March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Queen City.
