Parrish Finishes 13th In State in 1,600-Meter Run

Ten seconds isnít much time, but it was more than enough to push Scotland Countyís Casey Parrish off the podium at the Class 2 Missouri state track meet in Jefferson City on May 20th.

After finishing second in the district meet in the mile run, Parrish did battle with the stateís best on Saturday.

Unfortunately for Parrish, the bulk of the field put together faster times than their qualifiers, truly putting the pressure on the junior, in his first appearance at the top level. Seven of the top 15 runners all finished the main event in times quicker than any Class 2 district championship race in the state.

Parrish fell nearly 10 seconds off his qualifying pace and finished in a time of 4:54.40 to take home 13th place.

Larry Paul, a senior from Wright City, took the state championship in a time of 4:19.83.

Malden won the Class 2 boys state title beating out Brookfield for top honors.

The Tri-Rivers Conference school got points from Matthew Hoyt (4th 200-meter dash), Bryan Severa (2nd 400-meter dash), Luke Lambert (4th 110-meter hurdles), Alex Clausen (4th high jump) and the 4x200-meter relay team was 4th.

Other top performances from the league included a second-place finish for the Schuyler County 4x100-meter relay team; an 8th place finish in the long jump for Drew Huckey of Clark County, and a fifth-place performance in the 110-meter hurdles by Putnam Countyís Brandon Thomas.
