Rams Rout SCR-I In Regular Season Finale

It was not the note that Scotland County softball boosters wanted to end the regular season on. The Lady Tigers had hoped to head into the district tournament with some momentum and send off the teamís lone senior with a win on her special night.

Schuyler County did not let that happen.

SCR-I jumped out to a 1-0 in the first inning. Kirsten Johnston doubled to lead off the inning. Tara Matlock singled before a walk to Deidra Dochterman loaded the bases. But Valerie Oldham grounded into a double play and SCR-I was held to just the lone tally.

The Rams tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning and blew the contest open in the top of the fourth inning, scoring four runs on five hits, including a pair of triples.

The hits kept coming for Schuyler County, which scored three times in the fifth inning before scoring twice in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Scotland County tallied lone runs in both the fourth and sixth inning. Melissa Cotton reached base on a strikeout and a wild pitch. She scored on a single by Andrea Shelley. Cotton also scored in the sixth. She walked and moved into scoring position on a hit by Karra Small. Shelley picked up her second RBI of the night with a base hit.

Small took the loss in her final regular season start. She went seven innings, allowing 18 hits, walking two while striking out five.
