Tri-Rivers Conference Dominates Northeast All-District Selections
The Northeast Missouri Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association announced the northeast Missouri All-District football teams for 2006 on November 28th with several local players earning recognition.
A pair of Scotland County standouts were selected for the Class 1 All-District First Team. Marcus Shalley was selected as the division’s top quarterback while receiver Grant Blomme was one of the two top pass catchers recognized along with David Fowler of Putnam County.
The Class 1 first team running backs were Nathan Valentine of Putnam County, Ethan Harris and Aaron O’Laughlin of the state champion South Shelby Cardinals and Kaleb Lake of Marceline.
First team offensive linemen were Joe Ridpath and Zech Bowman of South Shelby, Darien Valentine of Putnam County, Cory Bennett of Milan and Pat Riley of Marceline.
On the defensive side of the ball Ridpath and Bowman also were honored on the first team defensive line along with Fowler and Marc Fagan of Marceline.
First team linebackers were Nathan Valentine, Bryce Johnston and Jordan Bowman of South Shelby, Riley of Marceline and Van-Far’s Ryan Hesse.
Luke and Aaron O’Laughlin of South Shelby, were the first team defensive backs along with Lake from Marceline.
Tyler Otto of North Shelby was the first team kicker
And Lake picked up his third first team honor as the top punter.
Shalley also was recognized on defense as a second team selection at defensive back.
Coach of the Year honors in Class 1 went to Kent O’Laughlin of South Shelby.
The Class 2 first team was dominated by a pair of Tri-Rivers Conference powers. Clark County and Brookfield earned 18 of the 23 first team selections.
Brock Egley of Clark County was named the top quarterback and a pair of his receivers, Carrington Daniel and Jesse Lorigan also earned first team honors
First team running backs were Luke Lambert of Brookfield, Javis Vineyard of Clark County and Brandon Waters of Monroe City.
The top offensive line awards went to Cori Seth of Clark County, Tyler Gordon and Nick Roush of Brookfield and Ben Graupman of Palmyra.
Lambert headlined the talented linebacker squad on the first team. He was joined by Calem Lipper and Brad Ferrel of Clark County.
The first team defensive line consisted of Andy O’Cheltree of Monroe City, Dustin White and James Zumbrunnen of Brookfield, Cori Seth of Clark County and Cole Sutter of Palmyra.
Vineyard earned his second first team selection at defensive back. He was selected along with Tyler Belt of Macon and Colby Bailey of Brookfield.
First team kicker honors went to Ryan Roberts of Clark County and Bryan Severa of Brookfield was the first team punter.
