Lady Tigers Drop Season Opener at Warsaw

While Scotland County basketball fans are excited about the youth movement for the Lady Tigers basketball team, a fellow youngster from Warsaw, IL put those happy thoughts on hold for SCR-I in its season opener.

Freshman Marley Hall scored a game-high 29 points as Warsaw knocked off Scotland County 56-29.

The Wildcats took charge of the game early with a 16-2 run in the first period.

Scotland County put together three solid quarters of play after that but never really recovered from the early struggles.

“It was a good team effort,” said Coach Kelli Swearingen. “I think this can be a game to build confidence going into the Novinger Tournament.”

Hall scored 10 points in the third period to nullify an SCR-I run that was fueled by a three pointer by Jessica Bair.

Kirsten Johnston drilled a pair of three pointers in the fourth period but it wasn’t enough as Warsaw rolled to the 56-29 victory.

Johnston led SCR-I with 16 points. Bair finished with five points.

Hall was the lone player in double figures for Warsaw.
