Third Quarter Run Rallies Tigers Past Rams in 54-42 Victory
Scotland County overcame a slow start to rebound and defeat Schuyler County 54-42 in varsity boys basketball action at Queen City on December 5th.
SCR-I trailed 12-1 before Bryce Blomme converted a three-point play with 2:04 to go in the period. A layup by Grant Blomme trimmed the deficit to half at 12-6 to end the opening eight minutes of play.
“We’re going to have to find a way to start games better, because we can’t get used to coming from behind like this,” said Coach Ryan Bergeson. “it wasn’t really anything we did wrong, the shots just weren’t falling early on.”
Fortunately that changed for SCR-I. The Tigers came out of the zone defense and the man-to-man pressure fueled the fast break.
A put back by Cody Musgrove midway through the second period pulled Scotland County within two points. That was as close as the Tigers got in the second period as the Rams clung to a 20-17 advantage at the break.
That changed in period number three as Scotland County took charge of the contest. Kyle Shelley scored the first three points of the third quarter to knot the score at 20-20. SCR-I then went on a 18-6 run to take control of the contest, leading 38-26.
Grant Blomme and Matt Wickert combined to score the Tigers’ first 10 points in the fourth period as SCR-I put the game away and coasted to the 54-42 victory.
Grant Blomme led Scotland County (3-1) with 17 points. Bryce Blomme finished with 14 points and Cody Musgrove pitched in nine points.
