Seventh Grade Boys Complete Perfect Basketball Season

On December 18th the Scotland County seventh grade boys basketball team completed a perfect season with a 33-29 victory over Clark County. The final margin of four points was the closest SCR-I came to a loss in finishing with a perfect 14-0 mark under Coach Lance Campbell.

The Tigers were powered by twin towers Derrick Muntz and Harley Stone on the inside. But Coach Campbell said the team got solid contributions from all 13 players on the roster.

The team opened the season with a pair of wins over the Indians in October. SCR-I beat Clark County 23-11 on October 30th behind 11 points from Stone and five points each from Maverick Murphy and Brock Bondurant.

The following evening it was Muntz and Bondurant boosting SCR-I past Clark with eight points each. Drew Miller and Taylor Rader added four points while Ben Shannan and William Masden also contributed baskets.

A 35-23 win over Knox County boosted the Tigers mark to 3-0 as Stone exploded for 21 points while Bondurant added eight.

Stone and Muntz combined for 20 points on November 10 as the Tigers topped Kirkville 39-24.

Five days later SCR-I defeated Schuyler County 30-20 as Muntz topped the scorebook with 13 points and Bondurant added eight.

The teamís mark went to 6-0 following a 32-19 win over Putnam County in which Stone had a team-high 16 points to secure the Schuyler County Tourney title for the Tigers.

Canton proved no match for the Tigers on November 18 as Muntz had 12 points in a 41-18 victory. Stone added 10 points. Andrew Mathes pitched in with six points while Cody Avery contributed some solid minutes off the bench as well.

Scotland County thumped North Shelby 47-12 on November 20th behind a balanced scoring attack that saw Dylan Arnold, Laden Holt and William Masden get in the scorebook behind a season-high 27 points from Muntz.

The march toward perfection saw SCR-I best Knox County 35-8 to move to 9-0 on the year.

Muntz had 15 points while Stone finished with 10.

December started with a 46-17 demolition of Canton. Stone and Muntz each scored 16 points as the teamís win total hit double digits. Bondurant contributed six points to the victory.

Offense was a little tougher to come by the next night as Putnam County held SCR-I to below 30 for just the second time all year in a 26-11 win. Mathes topped the Tigers with seven points. Rader, Miller and Maverick Murphy also tallied points in the win.

Stone staked SCR-I to a 17-10 halftime lead and the Tigers held on for a hard-fought 29-20 victory at Kirksville on December 8th. He finished with 12 points.

Unlucky 13 was no troubles for Scotland County, which easily bested Schuyler County 39-19 to set up the season finale. Muntz led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points. Also getting into the scorebook were Logan Payne, Holt, Murphy and Bondurant, all with four points.
