Larry McCray Band to Perform in Memphis

The Lil’ Memphis Blues Society has lined up yet another top act to perform for local music fans.

The Larry McCray Band will be performing live at the Memphis VFW on Saturday, February 17 from 7:00 p.m. until midnight.

Larry McCray is among the talented young blues performers that are helping the genre gain popularity in the music industry. He highlights the band with his blues-rock style guitar playing and warm, soulful vocals.

In 1990, McCray became the first artist signed by Virgin Records’ blues division - Pointblank Records. They released his debut album, “Ambition.”

The second release, “Delta Hurricane” came in 1993. It was recorded in Memphis, TN with the Uptown Horns. Music critics indicated the guitarist’s performance of Warren Haynes’ “Soul Shine,” helped put his name on the map.

In 1998, “Born To Play The Blues” moved the story of McCray’s broadly appealing music forward another giant step as McCray again earned solid reviews for both his guitar playing as well as his vocals.

In 2000 McCray helped establish his own independent record company, Magnolia Records. The release of the band’s album “Believe It” helped jump start the new company.

That same year McCray was honored as the Orville Gibson 2000 Male Blues Guitarist of the Year.

“Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton… like seven or eight other people were nominated, as well,” stated McCray.

Magnolia Records released McCray’s first live album, “Live On 75”, on December 6, 2005.

For a sample of McCray’s music visit the band’s website at www.larrymccrayband.com for a link to the musician’s Myspace site to hear the band in action.

Tickets for the Memphis performance are $10 and will be available at the door. The club will enforce no-smoking the night of the performance.
