Three Local Men Cash In With Lottery Wins

Several area residents were among the winners when more than $263.7 million in prizes of $1,000 or more were awarded to Missouri Lottery players during January.

Thousands of other prizes of less than $1,000 also were awarded during the month.

Winners of $1,000 or more in January include the following:

Irvin Bennett of Downing won $1,525 in the Lottery’s SHOW ME 5 Paydown.

Charles Adams of Gorin and James Paris of Memphis were both $1,000 Scratchers winners.

The Missouri Lottery transferred a record $27.7 million to the Lottery Proceeds Fund for public education. The transfer surpasses the prior monthly proceeds record of $26.7 million set on March 17, 2006. The February transfer of $27,781,382 is based on January ticket sales, and it brings the total Lottery proceeds for fiscal year 2007 to more than $172 million.

“The record proceeds are a result of high Scratchers sales, last month’s high Powerball jackpot and Missouri’s record jackpot win,” said Larry Jansen, executive director for the Missouri Lottery. “We introduced our third ‘mega’ Scratchers game at the end of January, and as a result, had our highest week of sales for $10 Scratchers tickets ever and our highest January Scratchers sales ever.”

Jansen noted that the Lottery sold more than $4.2 million in $10 Scratchers tickets during the last week in January. Overall, January Scratchers sales are up more than 18 percent in 2007 compared with January 2006.

To date, the Missouri Lottery has generated more than $2.8 billion in proceeds for the state, including education, since ticket sales began in January 1986.
