CTA to Host Public Forum for Board of Education Candidates

The Scotland County R-I Community Teachers Association (CTA) will host a special board of education candidate forum in Memphis on Monday, March 19th. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the SCR-I high school gym.

Each of the eight candidates for the school board will be introduced with a moderator providing a brief biographical introduction for each.

The eight candidates for the board are:

Teresa Creek - a life-long resident of Scotland County. She is a 1986 graduate of SCR-I and is employed by the Gorin R-III school system as a bookkeeper. She and her husband Allen have three children;

Chris Montgomery - attended SCR-I before going on to Hannibal LaGrange College. He spent 10 years as a custodian and coach at SCR-I and is now employed by Barker Co.;

Doug Byrn - went to school at Schuyler County R-I but has resided in Scotland County for 17 years. Doug is a lineman for Tri-County Electric and also farms. He and his wife Stacey have three children;

David Kirkpatrick - has called Scotland County home all of his life except his four years of active duty with the U.S. Army. He has served on the SCR-I board of education for 12 years;

Rich Rader - has called Scotland County home for 35 years. He and his wife Lori have two children. He is employed as a programmer/automation designer for Barker Co.;

Stacy Alexander - has lived in the district for 23 years. He is a 1988 graduate of SCR-I and also holds a degree from NMSU. Stacy is employed by the city of Memphis light department. He and his wife Lora, have three children.

Doug Shalley - is a lifetime resident of Scotland County and a 1974 graduate of SCR-I. He and his wife Vicki have three children. Doug is employed by Jís Foods of Memphis. He has been a member of the board of education for six years;

Bill Cottrell, Jr. - has called the district home for 23 years. He graduated from Worth Co. R-I High School and earned his bachelors and masters degrees in agricultural education from the University of Missouri. Bill taught at SCR-I for 22 years before resigning in 2006. He and his wife Cindy have two sons.

Following the introduction of the candidates, the CTA moderator will ask a series of questions. Each candidate will have three minutes to respond to each question. Names will be drawn from a hat to insure a random order for candidates to respond to the questions.

At the conclusion of the forum, each candidate will have the opportunity to offer a two-minute closing statement.

Refreshments will be served following the event and guests are encouraged to stay and talk with the candidates who have been asked to stay and answer questions from the public after the event.
