Racing on City Square Results in Hit-and-Run Accident
A Memphis man is facing charges following an accident on the city square early Sunday morning, March 25th.
According to the Memphis Police Department, the accident occurred on the south side of the square at approximately 2:00 a.m. as the result of excessive speed. Two or more vehicles reportedly were racing around the square when one the vehicles went out of control and jumped the curb on the south side of the square.
The vehicle impacted the front of the former Little Fox Outdoors Shop, before smashing a Chamber of Commerce flower pot as well as a US Cellular advertising sign in front of Scott’s Home Center.
The vehicle then left the scene of the accident.
According to the police department, Curtis Cochran, 22, of Memphis, turned himself in to law enforcement officials the following day.
His 1999 Chevrolet Silverado sustained extensive damage to the right side of the truck at the time of the crash.
Cochran was ticketed for leaving the scene of an accident. He also likely is facing either misdemeanor or felony property damage charges based on the estimated cost of repairs to the building and other materials destroyed in the crash.
