Rhonda McBee Hired As New Elementary School Principal

For the first time in 25 years, the Scotland County Elementary School will be under new leadership.

Rhonda McBee will be the new elementary school principal. The SCR-I Board of Education made the decision at a special meeting on April 16th.

She will fill the position generated by the retirement of Rob Moore. Moore has served as the elementary school principal since 1982.

The boardís decision concluded a lengthy process to fill the vacancy. Superintendent Dave Shalley reviewed a number of applications for the position and narrowed the field to five candidates.

The five finalists were interviewed on Saturday, April 14th by a 12-member committee. The interview group consisted of faculty, staff and board members as well as representatives from the community. The group narrowed the field to three candidates.

Shalley took the recommendations of the committee to the board for review at the April 16th meeting when the final decision was made.

McBee is no stranger to the SCR-I district. She is a 1976 graduate of Scotland County R-I High School. She earned her bachelorís degree in education from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) and went on to attain a masterís degree from Northwest Missouri State University. McBee taught 18 years at SCR-I in the special education department before becoming the federal programs director in 1998. She has been with the SCR-I district for the past 27 years.
