Tina Gerber Named Missouri LPN of the Year

A lifetime of work in the healthcare field paid off for a Memphis woman this month when her efforts were honored by the Missouri State Association of Licensed Practical Nurses. Tina Gerber was chosen from among the group’s 22,000-person membership as the 2007 LPN of the Year.

More than a decade ago, Gerber decided it was time to go back to school. The Memphis resident had been working at the Scotland County Care Center since 1984. After seven years in the healthcare field, Gerber made the decision to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She attended the training courses offered through the Kirksville Area Vo-Tech and in 2001 she graduated as an LPN.

“I really leaned on my family and church support team during my time in school,” Tina said. “They really helped me get through it.”

Gerber worked at Kahoka and Edina, serving as the director of nursing at Crosspoint residential care facility in Edina. In 2004 she started back at the Scotland County Care Center in a part-time capacity before rejoining the staff full time in 2005.

“Tina is a very caring and dedicated nurse,” stated SCCC Director of Nursing Shelly Girardin. “She is an asset to us. We are so happy to see her efforts on behalf of our residents recognized with such a prestigious honor.”

Gerber, the president elect of the LPN association, currently is serving in the executive position due to the resignation of president Randall Blake. Her official term as president of MoSALPN will begin in 2008.
