Gorin R-III School Board Considering Roof Repairs

The Gorin R-III School District board of education met in regular session on Tuesday, June 26th. President Mike Parrish called the meeting to order and asked for approval of the minutes.

In old business, the board discussed the needed summer repairs. The board voted to get an estimate on the cost of roof repairs to the gym building. The district will also take bids on the necessary work to the Title I building and for removal of the backstop on the southeast corner of the school yard. The board tabled the issue of putting tin siding on storage shed until a later date.

Principal Tina Townsend reported contacting Culver-Stockton College concerning prospective candidates for the districtís vacant music teaching position.

Under new business the board elected to take bids on surplus computers and electronics. Miss Kay will prepare them for viewing.

Townsend reported that one freshman had returned the follow-up survey while none were returned by the seniors. She indicated that the freshmanís responses were very positive.

Next years bus routes and the new tuition rates were discussed and the board also reviewed the budget. The members also discussed speech teacher services. Townsend presented information regarding insurance rates for the 2007-08 school year.

The board talked about concerns regarding ATVís and unauthorized vehicles driving in the school yard. Townsend will order signs to be posted prohibiting this type of traffic.

Board members reviewed the districtís science MAP test scores as well as the districtís science curriculum. The group agreed to update the science curriculum as suggested by the teachers and Mrs. Townsend.

The July board meeting will be on Tuesday the 17th at 7:00 p.m.
