Carnahan Awards Grant To SCR-I To Preserve Community History
Jefferson city, Missouri — Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced today that Scotland County R-I School received a Local Records Preservation Grant in the amount of $11,116. The grant will be used to fund microfilm projects and increase personnel.
“Grants like these help ensure that important local documents are cared for and showcased, not forgotten in dusty attics or basements,” said Carnahan. “These local records provide valuable information about the history of Missouri’s families and communities that cannot be found anywhere else.”
The Secretary of State’s Local Records Preservation Grant initiative is funded through user fees collected by Recorder of Deeds’ offices. More than $6 million dollars has been distributed to support local public records management and preservation since the program’s inception in 1991.
A total of $259,281 was awarded to 40 counties, municipalities and school districts for the 2008 fiscal year. In addition, all local entities who are awarded these grants match the grant amount by at least 30 percent.
