Queen City Man Sentenced To 13-Years in DOC

A Queen City man was sentenced to 13 years in prison at an August 1st hearing in the First District Circuit Court at the Scotland County Courthouse in Memphis.

Jeremy K. Aldridge, 26, entered a guilty plea on May 29 to the charges of class A misdemeanor assault in the 3rd degree and class C felony of physically taking property appropriated from a victim.

First Circuit Judge Gary Dial sentenced Aldridge to 13 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on the felony charge. Aldridge was also sentenced to one year in the county jail, to run concurrently, on the assault charge.

The case stemmed from an incident in January, 2006 at a Kirksville residence where Aldridge allegedly stole money from the resident and assaulted the individual. Dennis Cain, 50, died several days after altercation, leading Adair County Prosecutor Mark Williams to file second degree murder charges.

According to the Kirksville Daily Express, the charges were later amended after Williams indicated the medical examinerís testimony could not establish with certainty that the assault by Aldridge caused Cainís death.

The case received a change of a venue to Scotland County. Dial was assigned the case after a change of judge request by the defendant was granted.
