Nate Walker Named New Director of NEMORPC

The Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission tapped into a strong background in government when it recently named its new executive director. At an August 29th meeting the NEMORPC Board hired former Missouri State Representative Nate Walker to fill the vacancy.

Walker, who calls rural Atlanta home, served the citizens of Macon, Shelby, Knox and Linn counties in the legislator where he was a member of the Appropriations, Social Services, Agri-Business, Higher Education, Election and Tourism committees. Walker also has held positions with the Missouri Department of Transportation as the State Rail Planner, the Missouri Division of Highway Safety and as the Director of Administration for the Missouri Attorney General.

The former publisher and editor of the LaPlata Home Press has also worked as the Economic Development Director for the City of Boonville. Other past work experience includes director of operations for the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association, executive director of the Missouri Head Injury Association and Director of Development at Kemper Military School and College.

“After evaluating and interviewing a number of strong and highly qualified candidates our Personnel Committee and Board selected Nate as our new executive director for his extensive management, communication and organizational experience,” said Nancy Goehl, Chair of the NEMORPC. “He will represent and provide our regional planning commission with a strong voice in working with our area member communities, state and federal partners.”

Walker holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Journalism and a Master of Science Degree in Regional and Community Affairs from the University of Missouri. He also did post graduate work at Duke University and the Haus Rissen Institute of International Politics and Economics in Hamburg, Germany. He is the father of two sons, Madison Walker, 21, a junior at Lincoln University; and PFC Sam Walker, 18, a member of the Missouri National Guard currently stationed at Fort Gordon in Georgia.

“I am extremely honored to have been appointed and look forward to working with the NEMORPC Board, staff and its member communities as we address important issues that impact the quality of life of the citizens within the region,” Walker said. “I look forward to meeting with all the counties and cities to learn how we might better be of assistance in addressing their particular needs.”

Walker began his new duties on September 10th.

The NEMORPC serves Adair, Clark, Knox, Lewis, Schuyler and Scotland counties. It provides a variety of technical support services to local governments assisting with planning, housing, transportation, grant writing and administrative assistance while also striving to promote public safety, general welfare and economic prosperity of the citizens of the region.

Walker replaces the Late Dave Shoush, who had been with the NEMORPC for 30 years, including serving as the executive director since 1997.
