Downing City Board Discusses Upcoming Municipal Election

The board of the City of Downing convened December 3, with Mayor Fry presiding. Others present were Aldermen Seamster, Phillips, Schmitter and Bruner; Carolyn Anderson, Tommy Anderson and Willa Mae Gooden.

Copies of the agenda, minutes of the previous meeting, deposits and disbursements, water/wastewater reports and cemetery ordinance revision were given to the board members. The agenda and minutes were approved and payments of bills approved.

Automated reading systems for the water department and tools to be purchased for the shop were discussed. These topics were tabled. Street repairs are never ending with the focus now being on Cemetery Street.

The first reading of the Revised Cemetery Ordinance was completed by title only and will be posted at City Hall.

Resolution 77-2007 regarding the election of one Mayor, one Alderman North Ward and one Alderman South Ward, all for a term of 2 years was passed. The City Clerk will accept applications for those positions between the date of December 18, 2007 and January 22, 2008. She will not accept any applications after 4:00 p.m. on the 22nd day of January, 2008. General Election will be on April 8, 2008, at Downing City Hall.
