Clyde Omar Lay, 78, Memphis, MO, passed away on January 8, 2007, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO.

He was born on May 29, 1928, in Adair County, MO, the son of Melvin and Nina Scott Lay.

He attended country school and high school in Memphis, MO.

Clyde joined the Army on January 10, 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict, and departed the service on January 9, 1953.

On July 10, 1958 in Kirksville, MO, Clyde was united in marriage to Edna Clay.

Clyde and Edna lived on a farm north of Barker, where they raised livestock and row crops. They retired and moved to Memphis in February of 1987.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Herbert Buckallew on April 28, 2006; one daughter, Valee Hoffner in 1964; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Edna of Memphis, MO; two sons, Darl Buckallew and wife, Leanna and Harl Buckallew and wife, Linda, all of Lancaster, MO; one daughter, Marie Tuttle and husband, John of Riverton, IL; two brothers, Wesley Lay and wife, Elaine of Memphis, MO, Forest Lay and wife, Dorothy of Palmroy, IA; 19 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Cancer Fund and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 East Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on January 11, 2007, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Rob Green officiating. Pallbearers were V.F.W. members. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958. Arrangements under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
