WILLIAM JEWEL (BILL) SHELLEY
(2/10/1908 - 1/20/2007)



William Jewel (Bill) Shelley, 98, of Memphis, MO, passed away January 20, 2007 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

He was born February 10, 1908, in Scotland County, MO, the son of Garland and Edna Jinkens Shelley.

Bill attended the Crow School south of Hitt.

On October 22, 1934, he was united in marriage to Mary Belle Kirkland, and to this union four children were born.

Bill was a farmer all of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Belle on February 5, 1990; a son-in-law, David Newland; one grandson, Mike Newland; two great-grandchildren, Kimberly Newland and Cody Shelley; four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by two daughters, Louise Newland of Downing, MO, and Nancy Girardin and Tom Riebel of Memphis, MO; two sons, Billie and Joanna Shelley, and Robert and Lois Shelley of Memphis, MO; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pat Shelley of Memphis, MO; and several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relative and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Dover Cemetery Association and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 22, 2007, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons. Interment was in the Dover Cemetery, west of Memphis, MO. Arrangements were handled by the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
