O. LEWIS HOWARD
(3/5/1924 - 1/15/2007)



Oscar Lewis Howard, 82 of LaBelle, Missouri passed away January 15, 2007, in the LaBelle Manor Care Center in LaBelle, Missouri. He was born March 5, 1924, in Brush, Colorado, the son of Pearl and Blanche (Lewis) Howard.

The family later moved to Lewis County, where Lewis attended the LaBelle schools, graduating with the class of 1941.

Lewis married Doris Jeanne Fulton, May 9, 1943, in the LaBelle Presbyterian Church. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II after which they moved to the house in the west side of LaBelle where they lived their entire married lives. Doris preceded him in death on March 27, 2005.

Lewis owned and operated Howard’s Garage from 1956 thru 1993 in LaBelle.

He worked with the youth of LaBelle serving as a project leader and judge for the 4-H Club and helped to establish the LaBelle Boy Scout Troop.

He was a member of the Memphis Presbyterian Church, LaBelle American Legion Post #200 and the Photographic Society of Quincy, Illinois. Photography was a hobby he enjoyed, specializing in wedding and nature photos. Lewis loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, and he was a faithful fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Lewis is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Fulford of Hyde Park, UT, a daughter-in-law, Dr. Carole Howard of Broken Arrow, OK, and seven grandchildren, Jeanette Robins and husband Matt of Saratoga Springs, UT, Chris Heinrich and husband Willy of St. George, UT, Denise Neish and husband Branden of Boston, MA, Will Spriggs and wife, Kami of Carrollton, TX, David Howard and wife Peterli of Broken Arrow, OK, Danny Howard of Broken Arrow, OK, and Thomas Howard and wife Lex of Tulsa, OK.

He is also survived by two nieces, Mary Ruth Couch and husband David of Edina and Peggy Gaines of Shelbyville, Missouri, two great-nieces and fifteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Robert Howard, his son, Dr. Jim Howard and his son-in-law Bruce Fulford, who passed away January 4, 2007.

Funeral services were held January 19, 2007 at the Coder Funeral Chapel in LaBelle, Missouri. Officiating was Pamela K. Glasgow, Parish Visitor Memphis Presbyterian Church. Eulogy was given by Jeanne Fulford. Music was provided by Carol Hayes, organist, and JoAnne Layman, soloist.

Burial was in the Labelle Cemetery at LaBelle, Missouri with Military Honors conducted by the LaBelle American Legion Post # 200. Casket bearers were David Howard, Ronnie Anderson, Steve Whiteaker, Ronnie House, Pat Manyx and David Couch. Honorary bearers were Thomas Howard, Bill Hunziker, Willy Heinrich, Will Spriggs, Tom B. Primm, Danny Howard, Matt Robins, Lloyd Wehrmann, Branden Neish, and John Ewalt.

An expression of sympathy in memory of Oscar Lewis Howard may be made to the LaBelle Manor Care Center. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Coder Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 151, LaBelle, Missouri 63447.
