ILA M. ALLENDER
(4/22/1934 – 3/13/2007)

Ila M. (Mrs. Wesley) Allender, 72, Mount Pleasant, IA, died March 13th, 2007 at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

A funeral service for Ila Allender was held March 17th at the Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant. The Reverend Henry Ledbetter officiated. Burial was March 20th at the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

Mrs. Allender, the former Ila Mae Arnold, was born April 22, 1934 in Gorin, Missouri, the daughter of Clayton August “Slim” and Edna Fay (Osbon) Arnold.

She resided with her family in Gorin and Downing, MO, and Burlington, IA, before moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1946. Ila graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1953. On June 6, 1953 at the First Methodist Parsonage, Ila was united in marriage to Wesley William Allender by the Rev. Dr. James Marlin.

Ila began her working career as a telephone operator. From 1959 until 1989, Ila was employed as an assembly line inspector for the Champion Spark Plug Company in Burlington. Ila’s strong work ethic did not retire with her from Champion. Ila then began cleaning houses for people. She was noted and praised for her thorough and meticulous work. Ila spent a great deal of time mowing and tending to her flowers. Cleaning, mowing and flower gardening were actually peaceful times of relaxation to Ila more than they were work to her. She continued these jobs right up to the time that her illness was diagnosed. When Ila did take time off, she loved to spend it with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also did gifted needlepoint and cross stitch. Ila enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines.

Ila was a member of the Finley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Those thankful for sharing in Ila’s life include her husband of over 53 years, Wesley of Mt. Pleasant; 4 children, Debra Jo (Williams) Allender, Garry Wesley Allender and his wife Debbie, Michael Gene Allender all of Mt. Pleasant and Diane Rae Allender of Iowa City; 6 grandchildren, Andrea Malone and husband Jarrod, Aimee VanZee and husband Jeremy, Phillip Allender & wife Stephanie, Seth Allender, Shawna Allender, Alana Allender; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Vada Graber of Mt. Pleasant and a brother and his wife, Jimmy and Cora Arnold of Mt. Pleasant.

Her parents and two brothers, Robert & David Arnold preceded Ila in death.

Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Great River Hospice of Mt. Pleasant or the American Diabetes Association.
