Donald E. Houston, 79, of Bolivar, MO, died May 29, 2007, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, MO.

Don was born April 13, 1928 in Greentop, MO to Floyd and Gladys (Morehouse) Houston.

Don attended school in Lancaster, MO, graduating with the class of 1946. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. Returning home, he attended college at Northwest Missouri State University and Stout Institute in Memonie, WI. He taught school in Iowa and later went to St. Louis and taught in the Clayton School District in St. Louis County. After 32 years, he retired as assistant superintendent in September 1987.

Don and Betty Jo Dodson were married in Jonesboro, AR on September 7, 1955.

Surviving Don is his wife, Betty of the home; three children, Sam Houston and friend of Whitesboro, TX, Julie Russo of Cleveland, OH, and Cynthia Miller and husband, Steve of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren, Lisa Marie Holley and husband, Mitch with the United States Air Force in Austin, TX, C.J. Virgil and wife, Dani with the United States Air Force in Germany, Katy Houston of Dallas, TX, Margaret Miller of Portland, OR, Dustin Houston of Yukon, OK, Kyle Miller and wife, Jess of Wood River, OR, and Jeffrey Miller with the United States Navy in Miliani, HI; great-grandchildren, Reese Virgil and Alexis Samuelx; two sisters, Lucille Witten and husband, Bob of Trenton, MO and Mary Lou Hagglund and husband, Paul of Ottumwa, IA; two brothers, James Houston and wife, Betty of Jefferson City, MO and Richard Houston of Milan, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held June 3, 2007, at the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO with Reverend Bobby Beeler officiating. Burial was in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster. Local arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
