Darrell Ray Nye was born on August 9, 1948 to Kenneth and Doris (Monroe) Nye in Chicago, IL.

The family later moved to Dearborn, MO, where he graduated from North Platte High School. Darrell then served his country in the U.S. Air Force for over eleven years.

After his honorable discharge he returned to the Dearborn area.

On October 19, 1981 he was united in marriage to Kathy Thornton. After their marriage they lived in Platte City, Ferrelview, and later moved to Kansas City, MO.

Darrell worked for Big V in Smithville, Walmart, KCI Shuttle, Holiday Inn, and later Sun Fresh, all in Kansas City.

He was a member of the Dearborn United Methodist Church.

Darrell was preceded in death by his father and his father-in-law, Marvin Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of the home; son, John Thornton of Hesperia, CA; mother, Doris (Monroe) Nye of Platte City, MO; two brothers, David Nye of Platte City, MO, and Mike Nye and wife, Dana of Villa Ridge, MO; mother-in-law, Madeline Miller of Kansas City, MO; aunt, Madlyn Courtney of Memphis; several nieces and nephews, relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville, MO, on May 31, 2007, with Rev. Ken Richardson officiating. Casket bearers were Jerry Enslow, Don Meyers, Jim Dejarnatt, Earl Weese, Gary Gann, and Gary Wells. Burial was in the Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgely, MO.
