AUBREY DUCKWORTH ALEXANDER

Aubrey Duckworth Alexander passed away on July 9, 2007 at Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO, at the age of 88 years, six months, and 22 days.

He was born December 17, 1918 north of Lancaster, MO to Charles Edgar and Dora Belle (Duckworth) Alexander.

Aubrey served his country with a rank of Staff Sergeant during World War II from February 2, 1942 to October 24, 1945 with the 7th Army Air Force, 443rd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Operations. He received the Good Conduct and Asiatic Pacific Service Medals.

On June 7, 1947 at the Methodist parsonage in Memphis, MO, he was united in marriage to Annabelle Engle. To this union were born six children, Judy Jeanne Arnold and husband, Jr. of Downing, MO, James Arthur Alexander and wife, Nancy of Gladstone, IL, Nancy Anne Kane and husband, John of Smithshire, IL, Joyce Jane Woods of Bloomfield, IA, Janette Susan Graham of Memphis, MO, and Mary Elizabeth Tietsort and husband, Dwight of Macon, MO.

Aubrey and Ann lived and raised their six children on a farm northeast of Downing, MO. After 43 years they retired and moved to Crawford, MO, where they have resided the last 14 years.

On June 7, 2007, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. A reception was held for family and friends on June 17, 2007, at the Downing Depot Park in Downing, MO.

Aubrey enjoyed farming, buying and selling cattle, and was happiest listening to his dogs out fox and coyote hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother, Herbert Guy Alexander; two sons-in-law, Harry Graham and Paul Woods; two sisters-in-law, Leverne Alexander and Bessie Alexander.

To mourn his passing is his wife, Ann; and his six children; 20 grandchildren; Robert and Rachael Arnold, Sam and Laura Alexander and Kris Peterson, Jim, Jason, Jeremy and Katie Kane, Paul T. Woods, Kary Curry, Andrea Krog, Alison and Jennifer Woods, Erinn, Joe, Laura and Andy Graham, Brad and Jessica Tietsort; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Edgar Alexander and wife, Ruth of Memphis, MO; two sisters-in-law, Erma Scurlock of Glenwood, MO and Pauline Engle of Queen City, MO; cousin, Grace Vandyke and husband, John of Lancaster, MO; and other family members.

Funeral services were held July 12, 2007 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO with Junior Arnold of Downing, MO officiating. Special music selections were played. Pallbearers were all of his grandsons. Memorials have been established for the Cone Cemetery, north of Downing, MO. Burial was in the Cone Cemetery with military rites by the Scotland County VFW Post #4958. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, MO.
