Gerald B. (Jerry) Johnston, 73, of Memphis, MO, died August 14, 2007, at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, MO.

He was born June 17, 1934, in Waynesville, IL, to Wilbur and Mabel (Summers) Johnston.

He married Darlene Koons of Kenney, IL, on June 19, 1955 at Clinton, IL.

Jerry was a farmer and cattle feeder all his life. He enjoyed going to cattle sales and car racing and visiting his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry was a past master of Masonic Lodge #16 AF & AM of Memphis.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene of the home; four children, Vickie and Rex Ewing of Collinsville, OK, Terry and Angela Johnston of Memphis, MO; Sandra Johnston of Nashville, TN, and Robert and Kendal Johnston of Arnold, MO: eight grandchildren; Andy and Ashley Ewing of Collinsville, OK, Jessica and Dino Nithianandan of Oklahoma City, OK, Kirsten and Kylee Johnston of Memphis, MO, Cole, Kate, Samuel and Caroline Johnston of Arnold, MO; and two great-grandchildren, Addyson Ewing of Collinsville, OK, and Kaden Nithianandan of Oklahoma City, OK.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Fire Department, the Hospice of Northeast Missouri and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on August 18, 2007, at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO, with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Pallbearers were Bill Orton, Ronnie Young, Leon Wheeler, Robert Waddell, Carl Sommers, and Kenneth Eggleston. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Hays, Leon Orton, Stanley Mohr, Gary Cochenour, and Jerry Sears. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were handled by the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
