HELEN WISHART BELFRY

Helen Belfry died at her home in Homewood, IL, on September 16, 2007.

Helen Verlee Wishart was born August 26, 1909, to Charles and Ida Wishart of Baring, MO.

She graduated from high school in Edina, MO, and received her teaching degree from Missouri State Teachers College (Truman University) in Kirksville, MO.

Helen and Eugene Belfry were married in 1941 and made their home in Harvey, IL. It was here their daughter, Mary Susan Belfry was born in October 1948.

Helen was an elementary teacher for 40 years. She taught in rural schools in Missouri, followed by several years in Lisbon, IA, Indianola, IA, and Belle View, IL school systems. After her marriage, she taught first grades in the Field School System in Harvey, IL, until her retirement.

As a young lady she was a member of the Baptist Church in Greensburg, MO, and later changed her membership to the Lorimer Baptist Church in Dalton, IL. Over the years Helen was very active in her church and other organizations.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Mary Susan Belfry; a sister, Aves Kapfer; two nephews, Thomas and Doreen Kapfer, David and Judy Kapfer, and several grand-nephews as well as many friends in the teaching field and her church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Eugene Belfry; her parents, grandparents, and a brother, Floyd Wishart.

Visitation and memorial services were held September 18, 2007 at the Lorimer Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Daniel Gute. Interment was in Oakland Memory Lanes, Dalton, IL.
