Ruth Harris, 88, of Lancaster, MO, formerly of Downing, MO, passed away on September 24, 2007, at the Macon Health Care Center in Macon, MO.
The daughter of Leo L. and Nellie E. (Petty) Ross, she was born on May 24, 1919 in rural Downing, MO.
On May 14, 1939, in Arbela, MO, she was united in marriage to Forrest Enlow Harris and to this union three children were born, Edward, Phil and Joy.
Survivors include her children, Phil Harris and wife, Paula of Blue Springs, MO and Joy Grimes and husband, Sam of Macon, MO; seven grandchildren, Michael Harris, Sarah Bradshaw, Tina Leslie, Martin Harris, Lesley Harris, Tyler Grimes and Kara Grimes; 10 great-grandchildren, Patrici Harris, Dillon Bradshaw, Haley Bradshaw, Nathan Leslie, Jacqueline Harris, Gabriel Harris, William Harris, Victoria Harris, Micah Harris, and Kyan Harris; one brother, Max Ross Petty of Texas; one sister-in-law, Barbara Ross of Downing, MO; nieces, nephews and other family members.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband in March 1984; one son, Edward Harris in December 2002; three brothers, Paul Ross, Francis Archie Ross and Jack Ross and three sisters, Mary Robinson, Virginia Johnson and JoAnn Ross.
Ruth was a member of the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, MO and after moving to Lancaster, MO, she moved her membership to the Lancaster Christian Church. She was also a Member of the Order of Eastern Star in Downing, MO and the Garden Club of Lancaster, MO.
Ruth and her husband, Forrest lived their entire married life in Downing, MO. After Forrest’s death, Ruth moved to Lancaster, MO, where she continued to live until her health began to fail. At that time, Ruth moved to Kirksville, MO.
Ruth treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held September 28, 2007 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO, with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Lancaster United Methodist Church officiating. Music was provided by organist, Maureen Watkins. Pallbearers were Martin Harris, Tyler Grimes, Vernon Carroll, Jim Brewer, John Beeler, and Jack Beeler. Memorials have been established for the Schuyler County Nutrition Site. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, MO.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO.
