LINDA ELIZABETH PURVIS
(8/8/1947 - 10/8/2007)



Linda Elizabeth Purvis, age 60, of Toledo, IA, died October 8, 2007 at Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held October 12, 2007 at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center in Toledo, IA, with Pastor J.D. Boatman officiating. Interment was October 13, 2007 at Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery in rural Scotland County, Missouri.

Linda Elizabeth Purvis was born on August 8, 1947, in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of Jessie and Ruby (Burrus) Purvis. She was raised in the Bible Grove, Missouri community where she attended grade school. She graduated from High School in Memphis, Missouri and received her Bachelors and Masters Degree from Northeast Missouri State College. Linda was a Physical Education teacher for thirty-six years at South Tama School District and coached girls basketball and track. She was recently honored for her role in starting the Junior High girls track program at South Tama. Linda was currently helping test students at the school and was teaching a class at Buena Vista College at their Marshalltown location.

Linda was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo. She faithfully supported all athletic events at South Tama. Her hobbies included traveling, golfing, attending musicals and watching professional sports on TV. She especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces and great nieces and nephew. Linda enjoyed helping people around her and will be greatly missed by her many friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents and one brother in infancy.

Survivors include one brother, Leonard (Nancy) Purvis of Lenexa, Kansas; one sister, Louise Purvis of Tama; two nieces, Tammy (Joe) Brown of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and Teresa (Jeff) Harrison of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four great nieces and one great-nephew.

A memorial fund will be established for South Tama Athletics or may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Homes, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
