SHAWN RICHARD McNAMAR

Shawn Richard McNamar died suddenly October 14, 2007, at Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Memphis, MO.

Shawn was born July 1st, 1968 to Larry and Alberta James McNamar in Kirksville, MO.

He married Janene Ann Steele, October 1st, 1994, at the Steele Family Lake in Gorin, MO.

He was a very devoted husband to Janene, an exceptionally good father to Tyler, Becca and Bailey, and an extremely caring son to his parents.

Shawn was also a great brother, cool uncle, and wonderful friend. Shawn will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, co-workers, and patients.

Shawn loved life, loved his job, loved the outdoors, and most of all, he loved Janene and his family. Shawn could brighten anyone’s day. He was quick to crack jokes and share a laugh or beer with anyone. Shawn enjoyed hunting and fishing with Tyler all around Scotland County, and even got a piebald doe during the 2006 deer season. Shawn made sure he spent lots of time with his daughters, and even took them to the Disney Princess Castle for their birthday. He was the kind of guy to take care of everyone else first. Shawn was always the life of the party and enjoyed playing darts and bags.

Shawn grew up at the Gorin Baptist Church, later attended the Memphis United Methodist Church, and most recently worshipped at the Gorin United Methodist Church. Shawn was a cancer survivor and participated in the Relay for Life for several years.

Shawn graduated from Scotland County High School in 1986. He served in the United States Navy for three years after high school. Shawn attended Linn Technical College and earned an Associate’s Degree in Drafting. He then worked at Midwest Environmental Consultants in Jefferson City, MO.

Later he attended Indian Hills College and received his Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant in 1998. After graduation, Shawn worked at Northeast Regional Health Systems in Kirksville, MO. He was employed as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Scotland County Memorial Hospital at the time of his death.

Shawn was a Youth Leader for the Memphis United Methodist Church in 1998.

When Tyler was in fifth and sixth grades Shawn helped coach their football teams in 2000 and 2001.

Shawn was the chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of Memphis for the year 2007.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Janene McNamar. Shawn also is survived by his step-son Tyler Henstorf and daughters, Becca and Bailey, all of the home; other survivors include Shawn’s parents, Larry and Alberta McNamar of Memphis, MO; two brothers, Dennis and Paula McNamar of Ft. Leonardwood, MO and Shannon and Kim McNamar of Kahoka, MO; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Orville and Johanna Steele of Gorin, MO; two sisters-in-law, Candee and Stuart Musgrove of Quincy, IL, and Teresa and Lonny Sears of Memphis, MO; two brothers-in-law, Mark Masden of Memphis, MO and Jon Steele of Gorin, MO; eight nieces and nine nephews; and three great-nieces.

Preceding Shawn in death were his son, Joshua Shawn McNamar; his brother, James David McNamar; his nephew, Ryan David McNamar; and his sister-in-law, Melinda Darlene Masden; He was also preceded in death by his grandparents.

Memorial donations may be made to Shawn’s Children’s Education Fund and may be left at or mailed to Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held at the Payne Funeral Chapel on October 17, 2007, with Pastor Barb Hagerla officiating. Joan Hinds was the organist. Pallbearers were Matt Miller, Jason Hawes, Jared Tague, James Aldridge, Doug James, Brett Masden, Tony Mayberry, and Andrew Musgrove. Honorary pallbearers were Sabe Sears, Carrie Hamner, Eric Masden, Greg Steele, Jennifer McMinn, Bud Sherman, William Masden, Melissa Brown and Joe Eddie Harvey. Interment was in the Gorin Cemetery, Gorin, MO, with Military Graveside Rites by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis.
