ONALEE BRUNER SPEES

OnaLee Bruner Spees, 90, of Kahoka, MO, passed away at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA, on October 20, 2007.

The son of William Thornton and Nellie Bon (Bruner) Spees, he was born August 20, 1917 in Downing, MO.

He was united in marriage to Iona Crandal and to this union one son, Donald was born. He was united in marriage to Wilma Loop and to this union three children were born, Penny, Cindy and James and he was later united in marriage to Bea Riley, who preceded him in death and then later he married Rosalie Gooden, who preceded him in death on July 2, 2006.

Survivors include his son, Donald Spees of California; his two daughters, Penny Walker of Springfield, IL and Cindy Spees of Hamilton, IL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Spees and wife, Thelma of Keokuk, IA; several nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.

OnaLee is preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Bea and Rosalie; one son, James Terry Spees; two sisters, Estella Kathleen Spees, who died in infancy and Jewell Lewis and one brother, Russell Spees and wife, Betty.

OnaLee was a faithful member of the Barker Church. After becoming a resident of the Clark County Nursing Home, he later moved his membership to the Kahoka Baptist Church in Kahoka, MO. He was also a member of American Legion VFW, Moila El Kadir Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge, Odd Fellows, Rural Mail Carriers Association and the Scottish York Rites.

OnaLee was an Army veteran where he served during World War II.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Downing Baptist Church with pastors, Kevin Eagle and David Barton officiating. Music will be provided by pianist, Willa Mae Gooden. Pallbearers will be Edward Gooden, Jesse Gooden, LaVern Weilbrenner, DeWayne Mullinix, Clarence Ray Kinney, Junior Blessing and Joe Sayre. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Eddie Harvey, Howard Harvey, Robert Aldridge, Robert L. Shelley, I.G. Ruth, Danny Brush, and Robert Dugger.

Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the services on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at the Downing Baptist Church in Downing, MO.

Memorials have been established for the Barker Church. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery in Downing, MO with military rites by the Scotland County VFW Post #4958. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral home in Lancaster, MO.
